William “Billy” Ramey, 94, of Shade, OH, formerly of Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark, OH.
He was born November 19, 1929, at Stirrat, WV, the son of the late Hiram Ramey and Alma Damron Capua.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Betty Jean Herndon Ramey; his stepfather, Rocco Capua; and one sister, Betty Jo Jackson.
Billy dedicated over 35 years of his life as a coal miner. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Freemason with a remarkable tenure of over 50 years and was a respected member of the Aracoma Lodge #99 A.F. & A.M. at Logan, WV. He was also a United States Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. A man of faith and a devoted Christian, Billy attended the Cornerstone Family Fellowship Church at Whitman, WV. He was also affectionately known as “The Candyman,” a nickname that reflected both his love for sharing treats and his endearing personality. Billy will long be remembered for his kindness and generosity toward others, and his memory will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Those left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Billie Louise Ramey of Ash Flat, AR; one son, Dave (Ann) Ramey of Shade, OH; one sister, Louise Dial of Taylor, MI; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Additionally, Billy leaves behind a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2024, at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel at Chapmanville, WV, with Pastor Richard Belcher officiating.
Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby, WV, where Masonic Graveside Rites will be observed. Billy's Masonic brothers will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.
