William Cleatis McCoy, Jr.

William Cleatis McCoy, Jr., 70, of Crum, WV, formerly of Sarah Ann, WV, departed this life on Monday, March 15, 2021, from Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston, WV.

Born September 4, 1950, at Sarah Ann, WV, he was the son of the late William Cleatis McCoy, Sr., and Anita Beebe Sir.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Freda Elkins; one nephew, Larry Keith “Daffer” Coffindaffer; two brothers-in-law, Larry Keith Coffindaffer and Bill Elkins; and two nieces: Rebecca Elkins and Gina Elkins.

Cleatis was a retired coal miner. He was a 1968 Graduate of Logan High School, where he participated in many sports such as football, baseball, and he was a member of the wrestling team. His love for sports continued well after high school, and he was an avid WVU fan. He loved horses, gardening, and taking care of his farm. He will be missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, JoAnn Adkins McCoy; his children: Karen (Kenny) Ferrence of Lorain, OH, Keith McCoy of Logan, WV, and Joshua Todd (Kaylee) McCoy of Sheffield Lake, OH; his step-children: Andrea Wiley of Charleston, WV, and Rodney Lester Wiley of Harts, WV; his grandchildren: Abby Ferrence, Shane Ferrence, Hayden McCoy, Eric McCoy, Logan McCoy, Joseph “Hunter” Cavins, Gunner McCoy, Waylan Anita McCoy, and Logan Rodney Wiley; his great-grandchildren: Sophia Currier, Carter Currier, and Collin Jae who is due in July; two sisters: Diana (Eric) O’Briant and Linda Coffindaffer. Additionally, Cleatis leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of very special extended family and friends, whom he loved dearly.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at the Word of Life Church in Logan, WV, with Pastor Josh Vanhook officiating. The service will be live-streamed on the Word of Life Church Facebook page for those who cannot attend.

Burial will follow in the McCoy Family Cemetery at Crum, WV. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2021, at the Word of Life Church.
