Thomas Lee Thomas, born on March 30, 1937, in Charleston, WV, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2024, in Thomasville, NC, surrounded by family and friends.

He was the son of Lewis Elbert Thomas and Louise Dodson Mitchell Thomas of Switzer, WV -and- Anne Carson (birth mother).

A devoted Christian, Thomas was a founding member of the Main Island Creek Fire Department and served as a firefighter and barber throughout his career. He was a member of the Omar Area Crime Watch. He was known for his vibrant and joking personality, winning a Best Beard Contest in the 1960s, and was proud to be a Logan High School alumnus. Then continuing his education by graduating from the Winston Salem Barber School in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

Thomas married his beloved wife, Sonja Lee (Stamper) Thomas, on December 8, 1957. Together, they raised three children: Toni Lynn Thomas, Tina Louise McKinney (David), and Thomas Lee Thomas II (Louise), all of Thomasville, NC. He was a cherished grandfather to seven grandchildren: Alex Wray, Sean Kilby, Savannah McKinney-Billings (Hunter), Cade McKinney, Mitchell Thomas (Mary), Francis Thomas (deceased), and Lauren Thomas, and a loving great-grandfather to five: Alena Wray, Katelynn Wray, Sydney Wray, Sophie Billings, and Axel Billings.

In his final days, he found immense joy in spending time with his great-grandchildren, whose laughter brought him great comfort.

Tom is preceded in death by his beautiful bride, and a plethora of family and friends. He was always very adamant that his “wife (Sonja) was waiting on him” and he was ready to go to his Eternal Home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Chapmanville, WV, with Preacher Allen Farley giving a message. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2024, with family receiving friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Evans Funeral Home, with a service thereafter beginning at 2:00 PM. Following this, a meal will be served at Omar Community Center at 6:00 PM.

A graveside service will take place on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Highland Memory Gardens in Chapmanville, WV, at 11:00 AM.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Well Care Hospice of North Carolina for their exceptional care during his final days, as well as to family members and his dear friend, Donna Williams, for their loving support and companionship.
