Sidney Douglas “Sid” Rayburn, 67, of Charleston, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 2, 2024, leaving from CAMC Memorial Hospital at Charleston, WV.
He was born February 15, 1957, at Man, WV, the son of the late Sidney Oley Rayburn and Dorothy Rayburn Bright.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Woodrow Frank Bright; two sisters, Norma Patrick and Phyllis Blair; and one son-in-law, Kevin Dillon.
Sid was a retired conductor/brakeman who dedicated many years of service to CSX Transportation. A proud 1975 graduate of Logan High School, he excelled as a four-sport letterman, demonstrating his commitment and team spirit in football, baseball, basketball, and track. In 2002, Sid gave his life to the Lord and became a faithful servant. He attended the Living Word Christian Center. An avid outdoorsman, Sid was an accomplished hunter and trout fisherman.
Aside from serving the Lord, family was the cornerstone of his life. He was a loving husband of 49 years to his wife, Debbie. He cherished every moment spent with his family who brought him immeasurable happiness. Sid's love extended to his furry companions as well. His beloved pets, Pepper, Trixie, Sammy, Pete, and Spider, were more than just animals to him. Each pet held a special place in his heart, and their presence brought him comfort and companionship throughout the years. Sid left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and his memory will live on in the countless lives he touched. We take comfort in knowing that he now rests in the loving embrace of the Lord he so faithfully served. “Nobody like Jesus!”
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 49 years, Debbie Taylor Rayburn; one daughter, Meredith (Criss) Davis; one son, Brent (Mark) Rayburn-Velco; his grandchildren, Sydney (Devin) Wiley; Grayson Dillon, Easton Dillon, and Aidric Velco; two great-grandchildren, Dillon Wiley and Dean Wiley; one sister, Cyndi Cuccio; one brother, Frank Bright, Jr.; and his special little hunting buddy, Hunter Hizeman. Additionally, Sid leaves behind many nieces and nephews, countless hunting and fishing buddies, and a host of extended family and friends.
The Rayburn Family would like to extend a special thanks to the CAMC Memorial staff, Pastor Aaron Hill and his wife, Sarah, along with extended family members, John and Melinda Curry.
