Shelby Jean Butcher, 84, of Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at her residence.
Born January 3, 1939, at Matoaka, WV, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Della Melvin Gray.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lace Milton Butcher; one son, Bruce Milton Gray; two sisters, Kathy Slone and Norma Hale; and one infant sister.
Shelby made her living as a housekeeper. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, solving word puzzles, watching ballgames, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, Grant (Lisa) Butcher and Robert (Debra) Butcher both of Chapmanville, WV; one daughter, Amy Richards of Chapmanville, WV; seven grandchildren, Kista Blankenship, Farrah (Jeremy) Farmer, Olivia (Billy) Conley, Grant Lee (Kayla) Butcher, Anthony (Marlena) Butcher, Dakota Bucther, and Jordan (Kaitlynn) Workman; ten great-grandchildren, Gracie Blankenship, Matthew Blankenship, Jermaine Farmer, Hailee Blankenship, Nevaeh Conley, Gracie Adams, Jordan Adams, Vanessa Workman, Braylan Workman, and Casey Workman; two brothers, Benny Gray of Cleveland, OH, and Junior Gray of Matoaka, WV; three sisters, Shirley Hale of Cleveland, OH, Della “Pug” Shrader of Matoaka, WV, and Connie (Roger) Billings of Virginia. Additionally, Shelby leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of extended family and friends.
Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2023, at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel at Chapmanville, WV, with Rev. Rodney Robinette officiating.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
