Sharon Kay Gibbs, 78, of Scott Depot, WV, formerly of Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on Monday, October 13, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her family.

She was born April 4, 1947, in Logan, WV, the daughter of the late Dallas Roy and Nellie Roberts Ferrell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Ray Gibbs; daughter, Stephanie Danielle Carter; and beloved nephew, David Alan Harkins.

She graduated from Logan High School in 1965 and later graduated from Marshall University with a master’s degree in early childhood education. She taught the majority of her career as a first grade teacher at West Chapmanville Grade. During her time as a schoolteacher, she made very close lifelong friends of whom they called themselves the dinosaurs. She was a member of Justice Christian Church. She was a proud Democrat and always encouraged others to do their patriotic duty by voting. She worked for many years as a poll clerk for the Big Creek District. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Daniel Matthew Gibbs of Scott Depot, WV; granddaughter, Kiela (Jeff) Lester of Culloden, WV; great-grandsons, Leo and Noah Lester also of Culloden, WV; sister, Ruby (David) Harkins of Falling Waters, WV; a special cousin who was like a sister, Cindy (Johnny) Armstrong of Holden, WV; nieces, Karen (Ed) Moas of Manassas, VA, and Alayna (Wayne) Allen of Middletown, MD; cousin, Anita Ellis of Woodstock, GA; her aunt, Opal Enochs of Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law, Kay Bradley of Gloucester, VA; a very special friend who was like a daughter, Jennifer Ballard of Charleston, WV; and a host of extended family and friends.
