Ronald Gene “Ron” Thompson, 68, of Verdunville, WV, departed from this world on Thursday, April 28, 2022, leaving from his residence.
Born August 10, 1953, at Holden, WV, he was the son of the late Wayne and Ellen “Tootle” Nelson Thompson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Tammie Thompson; one sister, Ellen “Harvey” McCloud; one brother, Jack Thompson; one sister-in-law, Kathy Browning; three brothers-in-law, Rayburn Browning, Donald Browning, and Richard Kammer; one uncle, Ed Nelson; and one special cousin, John McCormick.
Ron, as he was affectionately known, was a loving son, husband, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He held many roles and callings throughout his life. Before retirement, he was the Campus Manager of both the Logan and Boone Campuses of Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College. Ron was also an ordained minister and a faithful member of the Maryetta United Baptist Church at Verdunville, WV, where he served as Choir Director and the adult class Sunday School Teacher, and he was also actively involved in the Men’s Fellowship program with the church. In addition, he served as clerk of the Bethlehem Association of United Baptist Churches of Jesus Christ, and he was also the clerk for the examining board of the Association. Ron also served as the General Superintendent of the Sunday School Convention.
Those left to cherish his memory are two brothers, Wayne (Sue) Thompson of Salem, OR, and Rick (Connie) Thompson of Princeton, WV; two special brothers-in-law, Virgil Browning, Jr., and Dennis McCloud of Verdunville, WV; three special sisters-in-law, Iris J. Kammer of Verdunville, WV, Billie Browning of Wayne, WV, and Christine Thompson of St. Paul, MN; one special aunt, Beatrice “Bea” Nelson of Chapmanville, WV; and one special cousin, Dee McCormick of Chapmanville, WV. Additionally, Ron leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews, along with many cousins, his church family, and a host of extended family and countless friends.
A private funeral service will be held for immediate family only.
Ron will be laid to rest beside his loving wife, Tammie, at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby, WV.
Pallbearers will be: Dakota McCloud, Tanner McCloud, Brad Browning, Rayburn Browning, Blake Hensley, Johnathon Hensley, Codie Doss, Andy Thompson, and Malcom Floyd.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Maryetta House Ministries c/o Maryetta United Baptist Church at P.O. Box 32 Verdunville, WV 25649.
