Robert Hite Grove, Jr., 74, of Logan, West Virginia, departed for his next great adventure on Saturday, June 1, 2024. He was born on July 19, 1949, to the late Mary Maddy and Robert Hite Grove, Sr.
Rob’s warmth, kindness, and consideration was outshone only by his enormous sense of humor and love of learning. A lifelong storyteller, he delighted in regaling friends, acquaintances, and everyone in between with tales both tall and (mostly) true. As a Vietnam War veteran, he maintained a steadfast sense of pride in his country and a dedication to serving his fellow man; he served two tours of duty in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971, where he was awarded several medals, including the Purple Heart. He was a voracious reader and student of history. His farm on War Ridge in Monroe County was the most magical place in the world to Rob, and he spent many, many happy hours there on his porch swing, listening to Creedence Clearwater Revival on the radio, and appreciating nature and all the creatures he encountered. His true love, however, was his family.
Memories of Rob remain cherished by his devoted wife of 44 years, Beverly Clendenin Grove of Logan, WV; daughters Autumn Grove of Logan, WV, and Robbie Grove of Huntington, WV; sisters Margaret Peggy Phillips of Port St. Lucie, FL and Helen (Ted) Grove of Traverse City, MI; brother-in-law Charles (Vickie) Clendenin of Crawley Creek, WV; nieces April Clendenin of Logan, WV, and Krystal (Jerry) McClellan of Winfield, WV; nephews Christian (Alicia) Phillips of Port St. Lucie, FL, Samuel (Katy) Phillips of Bridgeville, PA, and Charles “Buddy” Phillips of Batavia, OH; special cousin and brother Dan (Vicky) Helms of Hinton, WV; four-legged granddaughters Ripley, Zola, Willow, and Whiskey Grove; and countless beloved great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.
Waiting for Rob were his dear parents; his close friends, Paul Perry, Fred Runyon, Kit and Tony Quinn, Bill Shepherd, and others; and his treasured dog, Bear.
His family would like to extend deepest gratitude to the staff of Fresenius Kidney Care, Logan Regional Medical Center, Cabell Huntington Hospital, The Herschel Woody Williams VA Medical Center, Pikeville Medical Center, and The Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. These exceptional people took wonderful care of Rob and made a huge impact on his last months.
Please join us in remembering Rob with stories of his adventures at Evans Funeral Home on Monday, June 10, 2024, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. He will be given a place of honor on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at noon at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery in Dunbar, WV. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
