Robert Eugene Newsome, 78, of Chapmanville, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 15, 2024, leaving from CAMC Memorial Hospital at Charleston, WV.

He was born February 26, 1946, at Naugatuck, WV, the son of the late Roosevelt and Olive Marcum Newsome.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Newsome.

Eugene was a skilled surveyor for over 43 years. A devout Christian, he loved sharing the testimony of his salvation in Jesus Christ to everyone he met. He was a member of the 1962 Lenore Rangers State Championship Basketball Team. An avid outdoorsman, Eugene enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed bowling. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Aaron (Debbie) Newsome and Karla (Guy) Compton; his grandchildren, Evan, Asher, Jaalen, Brendan, and Eden; his step-grandchildren, Ryan and Kayden; three sisters, Ernestine Boster, Alice Faye Wood, and Freda Sowers. Additionally, Eugene leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Evans Funeral Home at Chapmanville, WV.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Newsome Ridge Cemetery at Kermit, WV.
