Reford Scaggs

Reford Scaggs, 86, of Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, leaving from the Hubbard Hospice House West at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston, WV.

Born October 21, 1935, at Chapmanville, WV, he was the son of the late Russell Scaggs and Lola Adams Pridemore.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gay Scaggs; one son, Thomas Harold Scaggs; and one brother, Claude Scaggs.

Reford was employed with CSX Transportation as a railroad engineer and retired after 42 years of service. He attended the Striker Bible Church. An avid outdoorsman, Reford loved sitting on his porch and hunting. He was also an avid gun collector. He enjoyed many things in life, but he especially enjoyed going to Parkway and eating a delicious Parkway hot dog.

Those left to cherish his memory include two step-daughters, Shelby Stapleton of Chapmanville, WV, and Bonnie (William) Gibson of Virginia; two sons, Gerald Scaggs and Warren Scaggs both of Mount Pleasant, SC; his half-brother, Sam (Loretta) Pridemore of Chapmanville, WV; his beloved feline companion, Bob. Additionally, Reford also leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews along with a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel at Chapmanville, WV, with Pastor John E. Godby officiating.

Burial will follow in Adams Cemetery at Striker Fork of Chapmanville, WV. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
