Nancy J. Sutherland, 61, of Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Logan Regional Medical Center at Logan, WV.

She was born July 4, 1962, at Chillicothe, MO, a daughter of the late Charles E. and Donna R. Barrett Sutherland.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Debra Kaye Sutherland and Jeanette Ann Sutherland; and one nephew, Brandon C. Kirby.

Nancy was a savvy businesswoman and a pillar in her community, known for her generosity and unwavering support for local initiatives. She was the owner and operator of Ray’s Auto Mart. Nancy's flair for fashion made her a local icon, always dressing impeccably and ahead of the curve when it came to the latest trends. Her signature style was often complemented by her convertible BMW, a vehicle which she loved.

Family was the cornerstone of Nancy's world, with her nieces and nephews holding a special place in her heart as if they were her own children. Her grandsons, whom she adored, were the absolute joy of her life. She also had a deep love for animals.

Nancy's ability to build friendships was legendary. She had the unique gift of making everyone feel like they were the most important person in the room. To say that Nancy was a friend to everyone is no exaggeration. If you knew Nancy, you indeed never forgot her; she left an indelible mark on your life. Her warmth, kindness, and genuine smile left a lasting impression that will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by one son, Mike (Rachel) Sutherland; two grandsons, Michael Sutherland and Cash Sutherland; one great-granddaughter, Poppy Jade Sutherland; two brothers, Roger W. (Norma) Sutherland and Charles Ray Sutherland; nieces and nephews, Shannon K. Sutherland, Amanda B. Sutherland, Tonya J. Kirby, Wendy L. Bohannon, Donetta McCracken, James McCkracken, McKenzie Britton, Cindy Marcum, Savannah Sutherland, and Nicholas Sutherland; special aunt, Mandy Bowman; special friends who were like sisters, Portia Pridemore, Peggy Toler, Margaret Boehm, Patty Caldwell, Kaye Roberts, and Teresa McClure. Additionally, Nancy leaves behind a host of extended family and friends.

To honor Nancy’s wishes, her remains will be cremated.

In lieu of services, a celebration of life will be held in July.
