Nancy Lee York

Nancy Lee York, 71, of Milton, WV, formerly of Chapmanville, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, from her residence.

Born January 6, 1950, at Logan, WV, she was a daughter of the late Edsel and Aleen “Pat” Williamson Varney.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Olen York; one sister, Terry Varney; a very special aunt and uncle, Darlene and Brady Smith; and two nephews: Bert Van Compton, II, and Curtis Runyon.

Nancy retired from Avis, Whitten, & Wandling as a paralegal. A devout Christian, she was a member of the Chapmanville Church of God, where she had served as the former Sunday School teacher for more than 20 years. Nancy was a 1967 graduate of Chapmanville High School and received her associate degree from Marshall University. She was also an avid Marshall fan.

Nancy is survived by two sons: Olen L. (Amy) York, III, and Andrew (Dawn) York; her grandchildren: Sara, Abigail, and Meredith; two sisters: Sue (Bert) Compton and Carrie (James) Huff; one brother, Scott (Lori) Varney; two sisters-in-law: Sandy (Allen) Parsley and Sherlyn (Allen) McGuire; nieces and nephews: Amy Compton, Tracy Compton, Joshua Varney, Jaimee Brown, Timothy Varney, Kayla Varney, Melissa Dingess, Joy Kay Parsley, and A.J. McGuire. Additionally, Nancy leaves behind many great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews along with a host of extended family, friends, and her church family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2021, at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel in Chapmanville, WV, with Rev. Michael Davis officiating.

Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby, WV.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
