Mossie Miller, Jr., 86, of Chapmanville, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, leaving from his daughter’s residence.
Born January 28, 1936, at Logan, WV, he was the son of the late Moss Wilson Miller and Easter Marcum Miller.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois “Cookie” Miller; siblings, Harvey Vance, Elsa Mae Trent, Roy Vance, Eugene Vaughn, James Miller, and Frank Miller.
Mossie was a coal miner for 43 years until his retirement. A devout Christian, he was a member of the Victory Freewill Baptist Church at Mill Creek. He had a likable personality, loved to talk, and he never met a stranger. He also enjoyed working in his yard. Mossie was lovingly and jokingly known as the “Mayor of Godby Branch” because he always seemed to know what was going on. A family man, Mossie loved his children and his grandchildren with all his heart, and he also loved his church family along with being actively involved in the church activities and events.
Those left to cherish his memory include his three children, Sharon Chafin of Fremont, OH, Randy Miller of Lexington, KY, and Shellie (James) Barker of Chapmanville, WV; his grandchildren, Chanda (Caesar) Mendoza, Justin (Misty) Chafin, Brandy (Jon) Hall, Jeremy (Theresa) Miller, Andrew (Kelsey) Miller, Jordan (Elizabeth) Kirk, Kelsie (Sean) Fitzgerald, Austin Barker, and Brenna Barker; 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; three siblings, Charles (Libby) Miller of McConnel, WV, Fannie Moore of Logan, WV, and Pauline Ward of Akron, OH. Additionally, Mossie leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of extended family, his church family, and countless friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel at Chapmanville, WV, with Pastor Roscoe Chafin officiating.
Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, WV, with his grandsons serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.
