Melissa Leigh Burgess Iacono, 49, of Robinette, WV, departed this life on Friday, August 4, 2023, at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, TN, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born December 19, 1973, at Man, WV, she was the beloved daughter of Cherie Amburgey Adkins of Robinette, WV, and the late Dewey A. Burgess, Jr.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, David Lee Burgess, Sr.; her paternal grandparents, Dewey A. “Buster” Burgess, Sr., and Esta Barbara Kasey Burgess; and her maternal grandparents, Virgil C. “BB” Amburgey and Carol Sue Dillon Amburgey.
Missy, as she was affectionately known, was a 1992 graduate of Man High School and was a graduate of beautician school in Parkersburg, WV. Missy was a cancer survivor. Before becoming disabled, she was a hard-working woman. She began her career path by babysitting, then worked at Triadelphia Cable & Bit, became a beautician, worked as security guard, and then finally was proud to follow in her father’s footsteps as an underground coal miner for Cleveland-Cliffs, Inc. Missy loved the outdoors, camping at Blue Bend, spending time with family at cookouts, cooking for and hosting her family during the holidays, playing board games with her daughters and her Uncle Jeff, and spending time visiting her younger cousin Colton who loved her as an aunt. She was a member of the Christian faith.
Those left to cherish Missy’s memory are her two daughters, Jordan Iacono of Harlan, KY, and Darian Iacono of Stollings, WV; her mother and step-father, Cherie (Eddie) Adkins of Robinette, WV; two step-sisters, Stephanie (Eric) Stanley of Hurricane, WV, and Amber (Alan) Lester of Robinette, WV; one niece, Brooke Burgess of Accoville, WV; two nephews, David Burgess of Chapmanville, WV, and Liam Lester of Robinette, WV; and her companion, Ronald “Ronnie” Millsaps of Rockford, TN. Additionally, Missy leaves behind several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 14, 2023, at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel at Chapmanville, WV, with Rev. Steven Duty and Rev. P.J. Tomblin officiating.
Visitation will be held two hours prior to services Monday at the funeral home.
Missy’s remains have been cremated and will later be interred with her family at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby, WV.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville, WV.
