Lois Kay Adkins Obituary

Lois Kay Adkins, 80, of Van, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 5, 2025, leaving from Boone Memorial Hospital at Madison, WV.

She was born June 14, 1944, at Logan, WV, a daughter of the late Lloyd Ed and Rebecca Blair Brown.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Billy Jessie Dixon, Jr.; four brothers, Johnny Brown, Jackie Brown, Roger Brown, and Harold Brown; and one sister, Sue Carras.

Kay worked as a coal miner, having been employed with Beth Energy for 17 years before retirement. She was a devout Christian and attended Bigson Freewill Baptist Church. Her love for the outdoors was evident to all who knew her, whether she was four-wheeling, camping, or sitting on her porch enjoying God’s beauty. She cherished the time spent at her camp on the Greenbrier River with her family. Kay’s caring nature was a constant presence, as she selflessly loved helping others, regardless of the situation or circumstance. Family was the centerpiece of her world. She was a devoted wife of 38 years and an excellent mother, fiercely dedicated to her loved ones. Her nurturing heart was also evident in her affection for her pet poodle, Pebbles, who was not just a pet but the love of her life. Kay will long be remembered for her kindness and unwavering dedication to those she loved.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Donald Adkins; one daughter, Susan Dixon of Ridgeview, WV; two stepsons, Jamie (Nicky) Adkins of Uneeda, WV, and David Adkins of Van, WV; eight grandchildren, Zachary (Ally) Harless, Tehron (Kristen) Harless, Antony Harless, Michael Dixon, Joshua (Melissa) Young, Holly Adkins, Aaron Adkins, and Jessica (Josh) McKinney; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bobby Joe Brown of Athens, WV; two sisters-in-law, Judy Brown of Cross Lanes, WV, and Joan Brown of Florida; two special friends, London Meade of Danville, WV, and Mark Messer of Logan, WV. Additionally, Kay leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of extended family and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Memory Gardens at Danville, WV, with Pastor Phil Rowe officiating.

Following all services, Kay will be lovingly laid to rest beside her son.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville, WV.
