Leroy Philip Mullins

Leroy Philip Mullins, age 69, of Van, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 30, 2022.

He was born on March 31, 1953, at Madison, WV, to Phyllis Ann Davis Mullins and the late Maynard Lee Mullins.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two sons, Roy Alvie Mullins and Leroy Philip Mullins, II, as well as two grandsons, Charles Anthony Pasters and Alexander Benjamin Mullins.

He is survived by his mother, Phyllis Ann Mullins; sister, Anna (James) Carr of Uneeda, WV; brother, Ricky Mullins of Van, WV; daughters, Pamela (Carl) Mencer of Culleoka, TN, Sandra Mullins (Ken) of Beaufort, SC, Julie Mullins and Jessica (Charles) Pasters all of Crossville, TN, and son, Andrew (Sara) Mullins, Sr., of Monterey, TN; eight grandchildren, Ashton, Greyson, Heather, Nicholas, Johnathan, Cameron, Andrew Jr., and Cami; one great-granddaughter, Zellie, and another great-granddaughter due in December.

He is also survived by his best friend of many years, Kathy Akers of Madison, WV, who was not only a friend to him, but acted as his caregiver for many years.

Leroy was a member of Martha Freewill Baptist Church in Bandytown, WV. He was a coal miner, truck driver, equipment operator, small business owner, and a self-proclaimed backyard mechanic.

Leroy developed a love for acting and had performed in several plays in and around the Logan area and community including The Aracoma Story, Mamie, The Addams Family, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. He loved being on stage and would even design his own costumes and props. He loved his theater family. He also played a small role in Mindhunter featured on Netflix.

Leroy was a Christian man who loved to help everyone. He was a jokester and storyteller. He just loved making people smile. He was also Santa Claus to many kids throughout his local area. Those who knew Leroy well will tell you there are two ways to do things, his way and the wrong way.

A memorial service will be held at Martha Freewill Baptist Church at Bandytown, WV, on Friday, August 5, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. following a visitation of family and friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Martha Freewill Baptist Church or The Aracoma Story, Inc.
