Lawrence Roy “Pug” Johnson, Jr., 73, of Ranger, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 9, 2025, leaving from St. Mary’s Medical Center at Huntington, WV.

He was born December 15, 1951, at West Hamlin, WV, a son of the late Lawrence Roy Johnson, Sr., and Helen E. Webb Johnson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Gene Johnson; his paternal grandparents, Harrison Johnson and Rosetta Lewis Johnson; and his maternal grandparents, John Willard Webb and Goldie Marie Adkins Webb.

Pug, as he was affectionately known, was a U.S. Army Veteran. His work in construction showcased his strength and skill, while his tenure as a business owner reflected his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to his community. A devout Christian, he was a dedicated member of the Ranger United Baptist Church.

Beyond his work and faith, Pug was a man of diverse interests and talents. His love for motorcycles was more than a hobby, it was a reflection of his adventurous spirit. Antique cars were one of his many passions, and he could often be seen at car shows, sharing stories and knowledge with fellow enthusiasts. His love for animals was pure and unwavering, providing a glimpse into his compassionate and nurturing soul. Music also played a significant role in his life, with the guitar being his instrument of choice. Pug leaves behind a legacy of joy and resilience that will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Michael Johnson, Diana Crouse, Patty (Tom) Gerou, and Jeff Johnson; one special niece, Alexandria Johnson; and one uncle, Homer Johnson. Additionally, Pug leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Ranger United Baptist Church at Ranger, WV, with Rev. Joey Ferguson officiating.
