Katherine Jean Mayhew, 66, of Madison, WV, departed this life on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at CAMC Memorial HospiceCare at Charleston, WV.


Born November 13, 1957, at Massillon, OH, she was the daughter of the late Tolbert Ramon Whitt and Clara Shumate Whitt.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Angela Dyson.


Katherine was a cherished member of her community. In her early years, she worked as a manager for Rite Aid. Her passion for life was evident in the joy she found in everyday activities. She was an exceptional cook, a hobby which she greatly enjoyed. Her love for her family was the cornerstone of her life. She loved decorating for the holidays. Katherine's enthusiasm and kindness will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.


Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 46 years, Doug Mayhew; one son, Shawn (Nancy) Goode; one daughter, Susie (Jimmy) Wagner; two grandchildren, Rachel Goode and Brier Wagner; three sisters, Kaye (Gene) Johnson, Betty (Sam) Williford, and Sherrie Ellis; one brother, Michael Whitt; and one sister-in-law, Kay (David) Gallagher. Additionally, Katherine leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of extended family and friends.


To honor Katherine’s wishes, her remains will be cremated, and there will be no services.


Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville, WV.
