John Lee Ball, 72, of Lake, WV, departed this life on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at CAMC Memorial Hospital at Charleston, WV, after a long illness.
He was born June 14, 1952, at Lake, WV, a son of the late Benjamin H. Ball and Lou Verna Vance Ball.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra “Sandy” Scaggs Ball; and two nephews, Cory Isaac Ball and Benji Ball.
John was a retired coal miner from Bethlehem Mines at Van, having worked as a miner operator for 20 years. Outside of the coal mines, John found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was often seen with his beloved feline companion, Buddy, whose antics brought endless laughter and comfort to his home. John’s legacy of dedication, friendship, and kindness will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
John is survived by one brother, Dwight (Laura) Ball; two sisters, Beverly (Kenny) Myers and Carol Sue (Charles) Payne; nephews, Jeremy Ball, Dustin Ball, Eddie Payne, Jeff Payne, Mark Payne, Matt Myers, and Larry Adams; one special nephew, Chris Myers; one niece, Kimberly (Mark) Rhodes; and one sister-in-law, Judy Adams. Additionally, John leaves behind a host of extended family and friends.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday, January 27, 2025, at Evans Funeral Home at Chapmanville, WV.
Burial will follow in the John and Sandra Ball Cemetery at Lake, WV. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
