John Franklin Chambers Obituary

 

John Franklin Chambers, 74, of Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Genesis Hilltop Center in Hilltop, WV.


He was born August 24, 1951, at Fort Branch, WV, a son of the late Leonard Jack Chambers and Beatrice Mae Lester Chambers.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 7 siblings, Delores (Don) Vance, Roger (Lora Mae) Chambers, Jimmy (Sharon) Chambers, Herman (Sue) Chambers, Ruth (Bob) Shanklin, Smokey (Patricia) Chambers, and Juanita Chambers; and one brother-in-law, Huey Hightower.


John spent more than 25 years working as a strip miner, a career that reflected his strength, dedication, and steady work ethic. He was known and will be remembered as a jokester who could bring a smile to everyone around him. He was always in a good mood, and his cheerful nature left a lasting impression on family, friends, and neighbors. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures and found happiness in the everyday moments that many people overlook. His easygoing personality and positive outlook made him a comforting presence to be around.


Among the things he loved most were gardening and rabbit hunting, pastimes that gave him both enjoyment and peace. John was a kind and loving man whose heart was especially full when it came to his grandchildren. He cherished them deeply and took great joy in being part of their lives. His love for his family was evident in the way he treated others, with patience, warmth, and genuine care. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.


Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 29 years, Sandra Toler Chambers; one daughter, Heather Chambers; one stepdaughter, Cindy (Chris) Ball; his grandchildren, Laila Chambers, Dylan (Mackenzie) Hall, and Brooke Hall; his great-grandchildren, Kylee Ghee, Julia Hall, and Rylee Allen; and one sister, Stella Hightower. Additionally, John leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of extended family and friends.


Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville, WV, with Rev. Van Collins officiating.


Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Chapmanville, WV. Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon Chambers, Braydon Chambers, Kevin Brewer, Teddy Copley, Dylan Hall, and Chris Ball.


Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.


Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville, WV.
