John Irland Hensley, 81, of Chapmanville, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, leaving from Logan Regional Medical Center at Logan, WV.

Born November 26, 1940, at Logan County, WV, he was the son of the late James Hensley, Sr., and Lucinda Bryant Hensley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hollana Hensley; three daughters, Priscilla Hensley, Tess Conley, and Michelle Conley; five brothers, Harvey Hensley, Sr., Frank Hensley, Staumal Hensley, James “Jim” Hensley, Jr., and Lewis Hensley; four sisters, Gracie Hensley, Ferbie Farley, Gladys Hensley, and Betty Akers.

John was a coal miner, and he had also worked for the Town of Chapmanville. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, ginsenging, and root digging. He also loved playing music with his family and friends and watching Westerns on TV. Most importantly, he was a Christian, and he loved going to church and serving the Lord.

John is survived by four children, Shannon (Natasha) Conley of Hickory, NC, Irvan Hensley of Hudson, NC, Stacy Hensley and Lisa Hensley both of Chapmanville, WV; twelve grandchildren, Brandon Hand, Garrett Conley, Trey Hensley, Cody Hensley, Adam Hensley, Alisha Gullett, Jennifer Buff, Ashlynn Roney, Kelsi Waldon, Lilli Waldon, Hailee Waldon, and Kayla Hensley, and three additional loving grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Rosie Akers of Ohio. Additionally, John leaves behind a host of family and friends.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2022, at the Hall Cemetery at Browns Run, Chapmanville, WV, with Pastor Dave Sperry officiating.

Following the services, he will be lovingly laid to rest in the Hall Cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
