Joe E. Chapman

Joe E. Chapman, 86, of Chapmanville, WV, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Sunday, March 19, 2023, from his residence, surrounded by family and friends.

He was born March 4, 1937, at Chapmanville, WV, a son of the late George Stonewall Chapman and Easter Daisy Toney Chapman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Jane Chapman; one daughter, Mollie Chapman; one granddaughter, Autumn Barker; and seven siblings, George “Bud” Chapman, David Chapman, Paul Jenkins Chapman, Ruth Howard, Daisy Ferrell, Louella Barker, and Jimmy Chapman.

Joe worked for CSX Transportation where he retired after 40 years of service. He was a Christian and a member of the Morning Star House of Prayer at Ridgeview, WV. He loved spending time with his family, and he was a hard-working and humble man of God. In his spare time, Joe enjoyed pitching horseshoes, painting, cutting grass, and tinkering with anything and everything. He also volunteered and dedicated many hours to sports and the community. He was an avid outdoorsman, and he enjoyed walking. Joe was always full of life, and he loved laughing and giving to others.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Joseph Scott (Myrna) Chapman of Chapmanville, WV, Debra (Leonard) Cox of Peytona, WV, Paul (Sharon) Chapman of Myrtle Beach, SC, Mark (Brenda) Chapman of Winfield, WV, Jodi (Matt) Carter of Mitchell Heights, WV, and Cassie (Steven) Cox of Peytona, WV; 15 grandchildren, Andrew Chapman, Sarah Chapman-Turner (Brandon), Seth Chapman, Jonah Chapman, Willow Chapman, Alex (Ashley) Chapman, Ben Chapman, Bella Chapman, Joe Cox, Jacey Cox, Megan Cox, Maddox Cox, Emily Daughtry, Vivian Short (Seth), and Ethan Carter; 7 great-grandchildren, Trevon Chapman, Jazlyn Turner, Reeder Chapman, Audrey Short, Avery Baisden, Winston Chapman, and Madelyn Cox; three siblings, Jerry (Pat) Chapman of Chapmanville, WV, Norman (Mary) Chapman of Texas, and Danny (Melissa) Chapman of Kansas. Additionally, Joe leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2023, at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel at Chapmanville, WV, with Pastor Stevie Cox officiating.

Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, WV. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
