Jess Collins Obituary

Jess Collins, 79, of Logan, WV, received his heavenly reward on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.

He was born on June 23, 1945, at Mount Gay, WV, to the late Loren Amick Collins and Lola Picklesimer Collins.

He was preceded in death by not only his parents, but also brothers, Loren Collins, Jr., Kenny Collins, William Collins, Leroy Collins, David Collins, and Frank Collins; and a special brother-in-law, John Sheppard, II.

He worked as a coal miner for over 35 years and was a proud member of the UMWA. In life, he enjoyed traveling, but not far from home, spending time with family, listening to gospel music, watching hockey, old movies, and TV shows. He especially enjoyed fishing with his grandson, Matthew. One of his favorite hobbies was helping his son, Jamie, work on home projects where in later years he would supervise and try to be the boss. He was a member of Maryetta United Baptist Church at Verdunville, WV.

Those left to cherish his memory are his treasured wife of 58 years, Clarice Mae (Adkins) Collins; his children, Jesse Lee (Gloria) Collins of Danville, WV, Cindy (Andrew) Flanagan of Simpsonville, SC, and Jamie (Millie) Collins of Logan, WV; his beloved sister, Shelby Sheppard; 5 grandchildren, Matthew Arbaugh, Ashley Flanagan, Austin Bayless, Ramone Flanagan, and Joshua Collins; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff of Trinity Health Care Center of Logan for their care and compassion shown to Jess and the whole family during his stay there.

To honor Jess’s wishes, his remains have been cremated.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the Maryetta United Baptist Church at Verdunville, WV, with Pastor Lonnie Gore, Jr., officiating.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville, WV.
