Jerry Lee Mathena Obituary

Jerry Lee Mathena, 71, of Uneeda, WV, departed this life on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston, WV.

He was born July 10, 1954, at Bob White, WV, to the late Charlotte Mathena.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl Mathena; and one brother, Ronnie Mathena.

Jerry's career was a testament to his love for the constant motion and sound of locomotives, having worked for the railroad for many years. In parallel, his patriotic spirit led him to serve in the United States Army from which he retired with honors. An avid sports fan, Jerry's enthusiasm for the game was infectious. Whether it was baseball, football, basketball, or NASCAR, he cheered with his heart and was known to offer insightful commentary. He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments and interests but also for his kind spirit, his relentless optimism, and his ability to inspire those around him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Nathaniel Mathena and his companion Vannessa Thomas, Chris Price, and Jameson Price; his grandchildren, Jasmin, Haley, and Kevin; a host of great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Janet) Mathena; and two sisters, Rita (Danny) Vint and Delana Bennett. Additionally, Jerry leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of extended family and friends.

To honor Jerry’s wishes, his remains will be cremated, and there will be no services.
