Jennings Lee “Lee Bob” Dingess, Sr., 62, of Lake, WV, departed this life on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, WV.
He was born September 30, 1963, at Hamlin, WV, a son of the late Colonial and Jane Conley Dingess.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale and Carl “Tine” Dingess; and one grandson, Mason Lee Dingess.
Known for his hardworking spirit and generous heart, Lee dedicated over 40 years of his life to the coal mines, where he not only served as a dedicated miner but also rose to the position of boss and EMT, ensuring the safety and well-being of his fellow co-workers. Beyond the mines, he was an entrepreneur at heart, having formerly owned and operated Lee's Trucking. His work ethic was matched only by his commitment to his community, which he demonstrated through his involvement in local sports. As a coach of Little League Baseball and Midget League Football, he shaped the lives of young athletes, instilling in them the values of teamwork and sportsmanship, and he became a mentor to many.
Lee's love for his community was evident in his actions, particularly in his contribution to the Chapmanville Football Field. His selfless act of hauling in dirt for the field's construction showcased his pride in his hometown and his desire to give back. He was always the first to lend a helping hand, whether it was assisting families during their most difficult times or digging graves when called upon. His kindness and willingness to help others left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched. He was a firm believer in hard work and doing things the right way. An avid deer hunter, Lee found solace and joy in the great outdoors. His most famous saying, "It is what it is," reflected his approach to life and his ability to accept and adapt to whatever challenges came his way. Above all, Lee was a man of faith, a proud American, and a devoted family man. His love for his family knew no bounds, especially when it came to his grandchildren. He cherished the moments spent with them, taking them on excursions and creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 30 years, Missy Dingess; three sons, Jennings Lee II (Peggie), Brandon Tyler (Alandra), and Matthew Allan (Maddie); grandchildren, Jena Nychole (Thomas), Alivia Brooke, Araelynn Mae, Jackson Tyler Lee, Madalynn Brielle, and Maverick Cole; two brothers, Doug (Darlene) Dingess and Rick (Sharon) Dingess; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Hurley; and his father-in-law, Willis (Shelby) Hurley. Additionally, Lee Bob leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of extended family and friends.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville, WV, with Rev. Damon Murphy, assisted by Lee’s lifelong best friend and brother, Rob Kuenzel, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dingess-Conley Cemetery at Chapmanville, WV. Serving as pallbearers will be Little Lee, Ty, Matt, Dougie, Sugardad, Martin Browning, and Jordan Cook.
