Jean Frye Obituary


Jean Frye, 74, of Mount Gay, WV, departed this life on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at her residence.

She was born January 2, 1950, at Madison, WV, a daughter of the late Luther and Opal McNeely Gunnoe.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Dwayne Rowe; one grandson, Jason Collins; one great-granddaughter, Shylynn “Shae” Workman; two brothers, Richard Gunnoe and Raymond Gunnoe; and three sisters, Barbara Anne Harless, Edith Phillips, and Cledith Gunnoe.

Jean worked at Logan Middle School as a cook until retirement. Her passion for cooking extended beyond her professional life, as she delighted in preparing delicious meals for her loved ones. Jean's enthusiasm for life was evident in her love of playing bingo, a pastime where her laughter was infectious and her luck was legendary. Most of all, Jean treasured the moments spent with her family and friends, creating memories that they will hold dear forever. Her kindness, generosity, and the care she showed to everyone in her life will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Ocil Frye; two sons, Richard (Anna) Dillon and Christopher Frye; one daughter, Tina (Wayne) Dillon; 7 grandchildren, Brittany Kirk, Breona Dillon, Brittany Nelson, Richard L. Dillon, Diana Richards, Jeremy Roberts, and Ashton Jeffery; 5 great-grandchildren, Dylon Casto, RyKee Kirk, Zaela Hale, and Paislee and Palmer; four brothers, Willis Gunnoe, Wilburn Gunnoe, Robert Gunnoe, and Chuckie Gunnoe; special friends, Teresa Perry, Teresa Evans, Amy Adams, Edna Marcum, Ruth Egnor, and Eleanor Jackson. Additionally, Jean leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of extended family and friends.

The Frye family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Radha and Summer New and their staff for the exceptional care they provided.   

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel at Chapmanville, WV, with Pastor Joaquine Ooten officiating.

Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, WV. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville, WV.
