Helen Jean Bannister Obituary

 

Helen Jean Bannister, aged 91, of Scott Depot, formerly of Logan, went to be with the Lord on January 20th, 2024.  


She was the daughter of the late Carrie (Okey) Harvey and Wilburn (Wilmeta) Vannatter, and in addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Bannister; son, David Bannister; grandson, Travis Bannister; and brothers, Eddie and Junior Vannatter.


Jean was a beloved mother and grandmother, who touched the lives of many with her warmth, kindness, and love. She was a lifelong faithful member of Central United Baptist Church.


Born on December 24th, 1932, Jean lived a life filled with joy, love, and cherished moments. She leaves behind a legacy of love and is survived by her five devoted children, Wenda (Gary) Kerns, Donnie (Annetta) Bannister, Tommy (Kim) Bannister, Tammy Bannister, and Phillip (Becky) Bannister, and daughter-in-law, Joyce Bannister. She has been an amazing “Mamaw Jean” to her grandchildren, Tara, Tiffany, Joseph, Jeremy, Amanda, Jennifer, Travis, Whitney, Ryan, Justin, Erica, Megan, Caroline, Jacob, Grace, Faith and Hope, 18 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She also leaves behind her sisters, Debbie (John) Mendez, Peggy (Ron) Berry, Patty Ross, and sisters-in-law, Von Ada Bannister, Dee Bannister, and Sherry Vannatter; brother, Billy (Clara) Vannatter, and brother-in-law, Ronnie (Janie) Bannister. Additionally, Jean leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of extended family and friends.


Her home was a place of faith, love, and laughter. Her wisdom, strength, and gentle spirit will be dearly missed by her family and friends who were blessed to know her.  We are comforted knowing we will see her again.


Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel at Chapmanville, with Pastors Donnie Bannister and Rick Adkins officiating.


Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Whitney Bannister, Joseph Kerns, Jacob Moses, Erik Hughes, Lacy Deskins, and Nick Mullins will serve as pallbearers.


Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Evans Funeral Home.


Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville, WV.
