Harold Douglas Scarberry Obituary

 

Harold Douglas Scarberry, 74, of Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on June 15, 2022, at Pikeville Medical Center at Pikeville, KY.

He was born July 22, 1947, in Logan, WV, the son of the late Lewis and Estelle Thompson Scarberry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers, Bernard, Willard, Olta, Lawrence, Clyde, Joe, Lowell and Gerald Scarberry; two sisters, Ethel Inman and Evelyn Resor; one great-grandson, Oliver Hensley; and four angel babies.

Doug was a member of the Chapmanville United Baptist Church and loved playing his guitar and singing with his church family. He was also a member of the gospel singing group Circle of Friends for many years. He loved reading his Bible and studying God’s Word. He was a Deacon of the Chapmanville United Baptist Church where he also served as Sunday School Teacher for years until his health declined. Doug served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968. Doug was a 1965 Graduate of Chapmanville High School. He was a heavy construction worker and delivered mining Supplies. Doug loved his family, especially his grandchildren, they were his life and made him smile and act like he was a child also. He loved joking and aggravating anyone that he came into contact with.  He loved playing around on his backhoe behind his house, and he also loved watching Gunsmoke on TV. Doug would help anyone that he could if they asked.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years, Ada Scarberry of Chapmanville, WV; one daughter, Tammy (Ronnie) Brewer of Chapmanville, WV; one son, Doug-D.J. (Tina) Scarberry of Midkiff, WV; two sisters, Lorene (Harold) Pickering of Cleveland, OH, and Lucille Scarberry of Chapmanille, WV; two sisters-in-law, Mary Scarberry of Youngstown, OH, and Gloria Scarberry of Chapmanville, WV; six grandchildren,  Josh Hensley, Briana, Ashliegh, Amanda, Shayla, and Alicen Scarberry; three great--grandchildren, Maya Adkins, Autumn and Sheldon Hensley, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2022, at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel at Chapmanville, WV, with Pastor Lonnie Berry officiating. Services will be streamed on Facebook Live via Evans Funeral Home or www.facebook.com/evansfuneralhome.

Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby, WV. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2022, at the Evans Funeral Home at Chapmanville, WV.
