Geraldean Cook Adkins Obituary

Geraldean Cook Adkins, 94, of Peach Creek, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 16, 2023, leaving from Trinity Healthcare Services of Logan.

She was born November 1, 1928, at Brenton, WV, to the late Alonzo Marion Cook, Sr., and Susie Short Cook.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Purleigh Adkins; two sons, Purleigh David Adkins and Bobby Dale Adkins; four brothers, Josiah Cook, Ralph Cook, Buell Cook, and Alonzo Cook, Jr.; five sisters, Mary Bell Halsey, Gay Bush, Leanell Groves, Hettie Jackson, and Bertha Haught; and one daughter-in-law, Song Cha Adkins.

Geraldean was a devout Christian and longtime member of the Central United Baptist Church at Logan, WV, where she dedicated much of her time and energy to the ladies auxiliary, singing in the choir, and serving the Lord with unwavering faith and devotion. Her love for her community was evident in her involvement in local elections. Outside her community service, Geraldean had many interests that brought joy to her life and those around her. She was a skilled seamstress, creating beautiful pieces through sewing and quilting. She also had a love for gardening and canning. Camping was another passion of hers, allowing her to spend quality time with her loved ones. However, her most cherished pastime was cooking. Geraldean’s legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her loved ones and the community she served so faithfully. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Karron Jo (Steve) Suchomel of Ocean Springs, MS, and Debra (Andrew) Hawley of Kernersville, NC; one daughter-in-law, Linda Trent Adkins of Clovis NM; ten grandchildren, Amber, Bart, Joy, Jason, Heather, Ashley, Matthew, Tiffany, Lance, and Nicole; 14 great-grandchildren; and one special friend, Rosemary Harvey. Additionally, she leaves behind many nieces and nephews, along with a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Monday, September 25, 2023, at the Central United Baptist Church at Logan, WV, with Pastor Kevin Conley and Bro. Bill Wooten officiating.

Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, WV, where she will be lovingly laid to rest beside her beloved husband. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville, WV.
