Gary Allen Bryant Obituary

Gary Allen Bryant, 53, of Danville, West Virginia, entered into his Heavenly home at HospiceCare located at CAMC Memorial Hospital on Sunday, June 23, 2024, in the presence of his loving wife and son, as well as special friends Mark Wheatley, Jeri Lynn Bunting, and Jennie Cook. Gary was born in Charleston, West Virginia, on June 22, 1971, to his adoring parents, Diania and the late Gary Lee Bryant.

Gary was baptized at the Danville Church of Christ on April 17, 2022, alongside his wife, Lisa Bryant. Gary was a disabled coal miner with more than 20 years of underground mining experience, having worked at Long Branch Energy, Penn Coal Company, and most recently, Coal River Energy, to name a few. Gary was the former owner and operator of Bryant Excavating and Bryant Trucking & Hauling. Though Gary was proud of his work ethic and successful business ventures, he was most proud of being a father. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, kayaking, riding in the mountains, cookouts and campfires with friends and family, hunting Molly Moochers, attending church, working in the garage with his son, Luke, attending car shows, and spending time with family. Gary had the "gift of gab," having never met a stranger. He was always giving advice, whether you wanted it or not. Gary and Lisa loved exploring unknown territories everywhere they traveled, chasing sunsets and making memories together. Gary was a self-proclaimed cat whisperer, having tamed multiple feral cats in the neighborhood that he, Lisa and Matthew lovingly cared for and affectionately named.

Gary is survived by his loving wife and favorite nurse, Lisa Bryant, of Madison; his cherished son, Luke Bryant, of Danville; his precious mother, Diania Bryant, of Danville; his bonus sons, Matthew and Andrew Britton, of Madison; his loving parents-in-law, Roger and Suzie Bias, of Big Ugly;  sister, Sherry Ball; niece, Morgan Ball, and great nephew, Jax, both of Big Ugly. Gary was survived by his "chosen" brothers, Jerry Tackett and Terry Holstein, as well as Charlie and Bruce Shreve, who were more like brothers than cousins. Gary was additionally survived by a host of family, friends, and his church family, who lovingly supported him throughout his 28-month battle with stage 4 metastatic colon cancer. Gary's faith in God and his love for his family and friends inspired him to never give up hope. If you knew Gary, you knew the word "quitter" was never in his vocabulary. Gary was the definition of strength, having endured immense pain all the while exemplifying optimism and faith, a true inspiration to all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life in honor of Gary Bryant will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the West Virginia Training and Conference Center located at 431 Running Right Way, Julian, West Virginia. Brother Mark Wheatley, a lifelong friend, former dirt bike racing buddy, and favorite "chainsaw artist" to Gary, will lead the Celebration of Life per Gary's request. The family will receive guests from 2:00-4:00 p.m. with the Celebration of Life starting at 4:00 p.m. and a fellowship dinner to follow. Flowers may be delivered to the WV Training and Conference Center Thursday and Friday (06/27 & 06/28) between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Per Gary’s request, anyone with a special memory or story they would like to share about him is encouraged to do so at the celebration on Sunday. (Please don't be shy.) Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville, West Virginia.

Gary's family would like to thank everyone who contributed to Gary's cancer journey whether it be love blessings used toward travel expenses, prayers, words of encouragement, cards, phone calls, messages or visits. Additionally, the family sends special thanks to Dr. James Mears and Nurse Practitioner Chris Campbell, Palliative Care providers at CAMC Memorial, who were none other than Heaven sent; all of the loving staff on the 5 South Oncology Unit at CAMC Memorial who made us feel like family; as well as the amazing staff at HospiceCare for the love and compassion shown toward Gary and our entire family during his last days.

“For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.” Psalm 30:5
