Flora F. Pacis

Flora F. Pacis, M.D., of Chapmanville, WV, passed away quietly at 6am on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Meadowbrook Acres Nursing Center in Charleston, WV. Born in 1937 in Philippines, Flora attended medical school for Pediatrics in her home country before marrying Francisco Pacis, Jr., and moving to the United States.

After briefly residing in New York and New Jersey to start their medical careers, the Pacis’ moved to West Virginia in the 1970s to work: first in Man, then in Chapmanville. It was on Main Street (across from the Dairy Queen) that Flora opened her first office of a pediatric practice that served the communities of Logan and Boone Counties for nearly 40 years. She also treated patients at Logan General Hospital (now Logan Regional Medical Center) during most of that time. Flora’s career longevity enabled her to treat generations of families. It was a proud distinction that she was frequently reminded of, as everyone from young children to their grandparents referred to her as “Dr. Pacis”. She was a longtime member of the Philippine Medical Association of West Virginia and serving as president from 1998-1999.

Flora was strong-willed and independent, yet also generous and trusting, especially when it came to her family and friends. This circle of loved ones was the most important thing to her, and she gave everything that she could to support and protect them. Socially, she enjoyed both attending and throwing lively parties, with plenty of food, music, and laughter (the family Christmas parties were memorable)!  Personally, she deeply believed in her faith as a Roman Catholic, and she prayed often. Prayer was extremely important to Flora, as it provided her with a sense of peace.

Flora is survived by two daughters, Lisa (Pacis) Layne and Michelle Pacis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francisco P. Pacis, Jr.

A Catholic Mass service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2021, at the St. Barbara Catholic Church in Chapmanville, W, with Father Neil Buchlein officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
