Diania Kay Bryant Obituary

Diania Kay Bryant, 73, of Danville, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at home in the company of her dear friend and caregiver, Mae Rainwater, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Diania was born on April 14, 1952, to the late Robert and Nancy Shreve.

Diania married the love of her life, Gary Lee Bryant, on October 24, 1969. She was a 1970 graduate of Scott High School, and a 1986 graduate of Charleston School of Beauty Culture. Diania was a member of the Danville Church of Christ, where she was a loyal servant of God. Though Diania wore many hats in her lifetime, none brought her more joy than being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Diania opened Diania’s Hair and Tanning in 1986 (later named Diania’s Hair Care), working from home as a beautician for more than 39 years, until she recently fell ill and became unable to work in February 2025. Diania was formerly a substitute cook for Boone County Board of Education until she was diagnosed with stage III lung cancer in 2020, at which time she gave up her beloved cook job to undergo cancer treatment at Duke Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. Diania was also the former owner of Di’s Candles, where she handcrafted candles and home décor out of her home that were sold throughout various parts of West Virginia. An avid gardener, Diania authored a gardening book entitled, “House Plants for the Amateur,” of which she was most proud. Diania loved going to church, gardening, decorating, cooking, baking, entertaining friends and family, hosting annual Christmas craft shows at home, being a beautician for her loyal customers who were more like family over the years, canning, and shopping for new flowers to plant every spring.

In addition to her parents, Diania was preceded in death by her husband of more than 54 years, Gary Lee Bryant, and her only beloved son, Gary Allen Bryant, both of whom sadly succumbed to cancer in 2024.

Those left to cherish Diania’s memory are: her daughter, Sherry Ball, of Huntington; grandson, Luke Bryant, of Danville; granddaughter, Morgan (Jose) Schultz of Big Ugly; her “favorite” daughter-in-law, Lisa Bryant, of Madison; step-grandsons, Matthew and Andrew Britton, of Madison; her only great-grandson, Jax Schultz, of Big Ugly; brothers Steve (Doreen) Shreve and David Shreve, all of Danville; special cousins and their families, Charlie and Bruce Shreve, of Danville, as well as a host of family, special friends, and her church family which are too numerous to list. Diania will be deeply missed by our beloved fur baby, Sadie Mae, who provided much love and comfort to Mommaw in her final days. Sadie was a ray of sunshine during Diania’s darkest days, bringing light and hope into her world.

The family would like to thank Dignity Hospice of Chapmanville for the care they provided Diania, enabling us to honor her wish to pass peacefully at home. Special thanks to Mae Rainwater for loving and caring for Diania over the last few weeks, but also for being such a loyal friend and dear companion. Additionally, special thanks to Debbie Thompson for all of your help transporting Mae to and from Diania’s home, running errands, and being a strong support system to both Diania and Mae. We could not have survived these last couple of weeks without you ladies. Please continue to pray for Luke Bryant as he has endured more loss than anyone can imagine over the last 14 months. He has been such a blessing in providing care for his grandmother.

To honor her wishes, Diania’s body will be cremated, and there will be no services.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services at Chapmanville, West Virginia.
