Dewey Albert Sperry, Jr., 84, of Chapmanville, WV, completed his earthly journey on February 17, 2025, and now rests in the glorious presence of his Lord he so passionately served. He was born March 16, 1940, in Kentucky, the son of the late Dewey Herbert and Myrtle Marie Sexton Sperry.
Dewey was the beloved husband of Gladys for 62 years, a partnership that stood as a testament to enduring love and mutual respect. Together, they navigated the waters of life with grace and devotion, becoming an inspiration to all who knew them. He dedicated his life to preaching the gospel for over 50 years, touching countless hearts and transforming lives through his ministry. As the former pastor of Wheatley Branch House of Prayer and a devout member of the Community Gospel Church of Jesus at Morrisvale, WV, his commitment to spreading the word of God was unwavering. Dewey’s love for the outdoors was unmistakable. He found great joy in ginsenging, embracing the beauty of nature. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, especially during holidays and birthdays, occasions that he transformed into memorable celebrations of togetherness.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Johnny Lee Sperry; daughter, Carol Sue Sperry; brothers, Larry Sperry, Clarence Sperry, and Robert Sperry; sister, Nellie June Sperry; granddaughter, Angie Adams; and great-granddaughter, Pyper Jade.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Darnell Workman Sperry; daughter, Patt (Bo) Adams; sons, Franklin (Becky) Sperry, David (Kim) Sperry, Howard (Vicky) Sperry, Larry (Jamie) Sperry, Phillip (Bonnie) Sperry, Joe (Marlina) Sperry, Clifford (Jennifer) Sperry, Josh (Mandy) Sperry; a granddaughter he raised as a daughter, Kelsey (Steven) Bias; 37 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Carl Sperry, Howard (Barb) Sperry, and Arlen (Margie) Sperry; and two sisters, Jean (Joe) Rico and Mae Douglass; along with a host of family and friends.
Services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville, WV, with Boyd Adams, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow at Tackett & Adams Cemetery at Buffalo Lick Road of Chapmanville, WV.
