David Richard Mayo Obituary

David Richard Mayo, born July 20, 1953, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at Charleston Area Medical Center on Friday, March 15, 2024.

He is preceded in death by his parents Mason and Jewell Mayo, and his son, David Mayo II. He is survived by his devoted wife, with whom he shared his life with for 26 years, Amanda Mayo. He was a loving father to his daughter, Tiffany (Todd) Thompson and his son, Jacob Workman. He adored his four grandchildren Trevor and Trey Mayo, and Tripp and Tinley Thompson. David also had a close bond with his siblings, Steve (Sandi) Mayo and Perfidia Mayo, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

David grew up on Beebe St in Holden, WV and he was a 1971 graduate of Logan High School. After graduation, David joined his father and brother at Mayo Manufacturing Company, where he was still employed. David spent many years coaching little league in Holden and he still reminisced about those days with fondness.  David was a respected member of the coal industry, and his innovative thinking will be forever remembered. He enjoyed cheering on the Cincinnati Reds, the WVU Mountaineers, & the Dallas Cowboys. He spent many days on the golf course, took a lot of golf trips, and devoted many hours to the Logan County Country Club as president of the board of directors. As he was our rock and our daily go to for advice, we, as a family, will miss him forever.

To respect David’s wishes, he will be cremated. There will be a celebration of life on Friday, March 29, 2024 at Evans Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. with a service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mayo Family Scholarship in memory of David R. Mayo. Donations can be mailed to the following address: Logan County Charitable and Educational Foundation, P.O. Box 1367, Logan, WV 25601.
