David E Whitman, 80, of Foster, WV, went to Heaven on Saturday, May 28, 2022, leaving from Boone Memorial Hospital in Madison, WV.
Born April 4, 1942, at Peach Creek, WV, he was the son of the late Herman Sock and Alifair Beulah Howard Whitman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Shelby Jean Whitman; one son, Jarrod David Whitman; one daughter, Tonia Justice Whitman; three brothers, Herman Samuel Whitman, David Randolph Whitman, and William Rader Whitman; and one sister, Henrietta Ramirez.
David was a proud U.S. Veteran, having served in the Army for 6 years. He was also a retired coal miner and was employed by Sharples Coal Company. Prior to that, he worked for Valley Bell Milk Distributing. In addition, David served as a Representative for the West Virginia House of Delegates and also served as Union President. A true family man, he loved his family, and in his spare time, he enjoyed watching ballgames and boxing.
Those left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Diana (Ron) Herndon; two sons, David (Amy) Whitman and Dustin (Kurt) Whitman; four grandchildren; Kaleb (Lisa) Justice, Jeremy Justice, Dexter Justice, and Amanda (Gunnar) Curry; three great-grandchildren, Axel David Justice, Anna Jean Justice, and Anders Duane Justice; one brother, Homer Clifton (Daffy) Whitman; special nieces, Ashlee (Jason) Blankenship and Stacee (Troy) Stanley; two special great-nephews, Cole and Crew Blankenship. Additionally, David also leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of extended family and friends, whom he loved so much.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022, at the Fountain of Life Worship Center at Foster, WV, with Pastor Mick Frye and Rev. Mike Manuel officiating.
Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, WV, where Military Graveside Rites will be observed. Pallbearers will be Kaleb Justice, Jeremy Justice, Dexter Justice, Dustin Whitman, Kurt Cepeda, Dave Whitman, Mike Kelly, and Gunnar Curry.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
