Cletis "Butch" Ferrell Obituary

Cletis “Butch” Ferrell, 79, of Mallory, WV, departed this life on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at his residence.

He was born January 26, 1946, at Logan, WV, a son of the late George Pern Ferrell and Betty Joe Williamson Ferrell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Joan Beckett Ferrell; one infant son, Bryan Allen Ferrell; two sisters, Margie Burton and Freda Caldwell; two brothers, Leonard “Tick” Williams and James Earl Ferrell; and one grandson, Nick Hunt.

Butch, as he was affectionately known, dedicated many years of his life working in the coal mines as an electrician for Pittston Coal Company. Outside of work, Butch was a man of many interests, but none so dear to him as tinkering in his garage. He had a passion for working on vehicles. His love for trading and old cars often led him to car auctions, where he was a familiar and welcome face. He was a born again Christian and attended New Hope Freewill Baptist Church at Man. Above all, Butch cherished his family. He was a wonderful father and an even more exceptional grandfather. His grandbabies were the lights of his life. He was also an excellent provider, making sure that his family never wanted for anything. Butch’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and the warm memories shared with a man who was truly one of a kind.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Cletis Edward “Eddie” (Kristi) Ferrell, Cynthia “Sissy” Blair, and Crystal (Shawn) Kirk all of Mallory, WV; one son-in-law, Wayne Blair of Buffalo Creek, WV; his grandchildren, Brent (Angela) Ferrell of Newark, OH, Cari (Tyler) Grimmett of Davin, WV, Trace Blair (Skylar Belcher) of Christian, WV, Presley Kirk and Paxton Kirk both of Mallory, WV, and Brandon Hunt of Davin, WV; his great-grandchildren, Audrey and Hudson Ferrell, Carli, Jacie, Dalton, and Keaton Grimmett, and Paizlee Blair; one sister, Naomi Hunt of Mallory, WV; and two special brothers, Larry Bragg and John Elkins. Butch also leaves behind many special nieces and nephews whom he loved like his own, along with a host of extended family and friends.

As per his wishes, there will be no funeral services. Instead, his remains will be cremated and laid to rest atop his wife’s grave because she always said she did not want him smashing her.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 7, 2025, from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church at Man, WV.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville, WV.
