Carla Kay “Doe Doe” Preece, 73, of Delbarton, WV, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends on Friday, March 20, 2026, at CAMC General Hospital in Charleston, WV.
Carla was born May 25, 1952, in Williamson, WV, to the late Haskel and Mary Sheppard.
Carla graduated from Lenore High School in 1970 and earned two master’s degrees from Marshall University. She married the love of her life, Warren Keaton “Bear” Preece on December 18, 1977. The two were each other’s lifelong companions and friends. They were blessed with three children, Ashlee, Warren “Bub” Jr., and Lindsey.
Carla was a probation officer for Mingo County for over 30 years. Anyone who knew her knew she was a die-hard Tug Valley and Marshall fan. Always the entertainment in the stands, everyone loved the “Bleacher Creature.”
She is survived by her loving husband, Warren K. Preece, and her three children, Ashlee Kay (Jimmy) Gilman, Warren Keaton (Ashley) Preece, Jr., and Lindsey Kara (Brandon) Browning. Nothing brought Doe Doe more joy than her role as Mamaw. She is also survived by her five loving grandchildren, Candice Gilman, Keaton Woolum, Hudson Gilman, Cooper Browning, and John Browning, and three great-grandchildren, Mary Woolum, Easton Popp, and Presley Woolum. Additionally, Carla is survived by a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville, WV, Sunday, March 22, 2026, from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Monday, March 23, 2026, at the funeral home with Pastor Jimmy Maynard officiating.
Burial will follow in the Preece Cemetery at Delbarton, WV. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville, WV.
