Billy Joe Porter, 65, of Davin, WV, departed this life on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.

He was born May 4, 1959, at Holden, WV, to the late Archie Porter, Sr., and Lula Porter Newsome.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Janet Osborne, Wanda Rakes, and Tookie Porter; and three brothers, Archie Porter, Jr., David Porter, and Glen Porter.

Those left to love and cherish the memory of Bill and to mourn his passing include his children, Julie Ann Pack of Logan, WV, and Billy Joe Lusk of Oceana, WV; three grandchildren, Dylan Porter of Logan, WV, Desarae Pack of Davin, WV, and Damian Lusk of Logan, WV; and two sisters, Judy (Billy) Rose of Bluefield, VA, and Marsha Messer of Indiana. Additionally, Bill leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of other dear relatives and friends.

Bill loved to roam the mountains hunting, trapping, and root digging, and he was often and affectionately referred to as “The Mountain Man.” He was also known to be an expert tree cutter and could fall a tree exactly where he wanted it to fall, a skill he learned from his father. Bill was well-known and well-liked in his community, and he was always willing to extend a helping hand to anyone when needed. His family will miss him dearly.

To honor his wishes, Bill will be cremated, and there will be no services. There will be a family gathering in Bill’s honor at a later date. His remains will be laid to rest in a private scattering ceremony with Pastor Randy Toler officiating.
