Obituary

 

Betty Lou Sansom Miller, 76, of Chapmanville, WV, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Thomas Memorial Hospital at South Charleston, WV, after a short illness.

She was born April 22, 1946, at Godby Branch, a daughter of the late Mosco and Yetive Wheatley Sansom.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, William “Billy” Barrett Miller, II; one sister, Joyce Faye Sansom Martin; one great-great-nephew, Silas Stowers; her fur baby, Addie; her parents-in-law, Cecil and Gladys Plumley Miller; six brothers-in-law, Barry Martin, Ted Ellis, Jerry Miller, Jimmy Miller, Dana Miller, and Ronnie Miller; and one sister-in-law, Patty Miller McDowell.

Betty was a 1964 graduate of Chapmanville High School where she was a cheerleader and an active member of several clubs. She was also actively involved in the Class of 1964 Reunion Committee. After moving from Cleveland, Ohio, back home to West Virginia, Betty was the first assistant librarian at Chapmanville’s first library. She was also part-owner of Drill Steel Repair Company and Miller’s Apartment Rentals with her husband, Bill.

Betty enjoyed quilting, oil painting, cross stitching, reading mysterious novels and historical stories, genealogy, and watching football, especially the Cleveland Browns. She also enjoyed watching WVU and Marshall University ballgames along with all USA Olympics. Betty was also an avid fan of the Chapmanville Tigers and was always very up to date with each sports event and activity that was happening. She liked writing books, and she always hosted the best family gathering and holiday parties. One of her favorite past times was traveling to casinos for dinner and playing the slot machines.

Betty is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Miller, whom she wed on September 26, 1964; one daughter, Pam (Al Alderman) Miller; one grandson, Zebulen Vance; her step-grandchildren, Chrissy (Steve) DeMoss and Michael (Casey) Manley; her step-great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Taylor, Destiny, Hunter, Dayvon, and Haylee; one sister, Marlene Sansom Ellis; one sister-in-law, Phyllis (Dale) Miller; nieces and nephews, Teresa (Manual) Meade, Lisa Stowers, Mark Ellis (Cassie Kerns), Tammi Ellis, Eric (Misty Phipps) Ellis, Stacy Ellis, David Miller, Steve Miller, Pat Miller, Michael Miller, Lee McDowell, Valerie McDowell, Breet McDowell, and Beth Miller; great-nieces and great-nephews, Hollie (Justus) Smith, Adam (Cris) Meade, Chris (Amber) Meade, Stephen Stowers, Kelsey (Casey) Gore, Justin, Alec, Casey, Reese, and Natalie along with many others; great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, Te’hya, Brody, Emma, Mollie, Harlee, Cali, Roxy, Owen, Jude, and others; and her best friend, Patricia “Pat” Perry. Additionally, Betty leaves behind a host of other dear relatives and friends.

There will be no services at this time. Instead, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services at Chapmanville, WV.
