Betty Jean Herndon Ramey

Betty Jean Herndon Ramey, 88, of Shade, OH, formerly of Chapmanville, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 5, 2023, leaving from Overbrook Nursing Home at Middleport, OH.

Born June 7, 1934, at Dante, VA, she was a daughter of the late Roy Andrew and Ossie Ruth Powers Herndon.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by nine siblings, Clifton Herndon, William Herndon, Gertrude Herndon Browning, Harold Herndon, Iva Herndon Hatfield, Phyllis Herndon Adkins, Roy Herndon, Paul Richard Herndon, and Danny Herndon.

Betty made her living as a teacher for more than 28 years. She was a devout Christian and a member of the Cornerstone Family Fellowship at Whitman, WV. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In her spare time, Betty enjoyed reading, especially the Bible. She also loved gardening, fishing, camping, playing with her great-grandchildren, and visiting relatives. She was very quick-witted and had an amazing sense of humor. You were sure to laugh whenever you were around Betty.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 72 years, William “Billy” Ramey; one daughter, Billie Louise Ramey of Ash Flat, AR; one son, David Kent (Ann) Ramey of Shade, OH; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Additionally, Betty leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel at Chapmanville, WV, with Pastor Richard Belcher officiating.

Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby, WV. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.
