Betty Jane Lyall, 95, of Chapmanville, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, leaving from Trinity Healthcare Services of Logan.
She was born July 1, 1928, at Logan County, WV, a daughter of the late Andy Carper, Sr., and Retha Warren Carper.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Lyall; one son, Craig Lyall; one grandson, Andy Lyall; two great-grandchildren, Gabe Lyall and Olivia Lyall; three sisters, Ethel Hatfield, Mildred Thompson, and Linda Clark; and three brothers, Larry Carper, Andy Carper, Jr., and Daniel Carper.
Betty's career as an educator was marked by her dedication to her students and her passion for teaching. She taught special education and worked with vision-impaired and blind students, always striving to make a difference in their lives. In addition to her work in the classroom, Betty was deeply involved in her community and her church. She served on the Board of Missions for the West Virginia Baptist Convention, demonstrating her commitment to service and her strong faith. Even at the age of 83, Betty's spirit of adventure and dedication to her faith led her on a mission trip to Nicaragua. Betty was a longtime prayer warrior and a devout Christian. Her home was always open, and her kitchen was always busy as she loved cooking for her family. Known for her unwavering faith, compassionate spirit, and love for teaching, Betty left an incredible mark on her family and all those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her four children, Glen (Katherine) Lyall, Keith Lyall, Janie (Tim) Ragland, and Chris (Stephanie) Lyall; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored; one brother, Sam (Frances) Carper; and three sisters, Rainelle Browning, Maxine Winters, and Loraine Carroll. Additionally, Betty leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with a host of extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 5, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Logan with Rev. Rex Thompson officiating.
