Barbara Ann Gilman

Barbara Ann Gilman, 80, of Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on Friday, July 15th, 2022 at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston, WV.

Born May 15, 1942, at Parsley, WV, she was the daughter of the late Ashley Sidney Dillon and the late Dixie “Newsome” Dillon.

Barbara was a nurse for many years and co-owner of New Attitude, a former retail clothing store in Chapmanville, WV.

Barbara cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

She was a godly woman, and she understood that caring for her home and family were of the utmost importance. Barbara lived with Christ-like selflessness. She found joy in serving, loving, and doing for others. She walked in love and obedience to God and passed along her faith throughout her family. She was prayerful, confident, fearless, and noble. The image of God shown in her countenance, and she will be missed beyond measure.

Most importantly, Barbara was confident that her faith in Christ Jesus would lead to life eternal with her Heavenly Father one day. Barbara’s family is also confident in this, and although they will miss her, they will rejoice knowing this is not the final chapter for Barbara.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of more than 60 years, Cap Gilman; Son, Derek (Sabine) Gilman of Nettie, WV; Son, Stephen (Mary) Gilman of Henlawson, WV; Daughter, Vanessa (Roger) Fleming of Danville, WV; Grandchildren, Michael Leistman, John D. Gilman, Susan Gilman, Bobby Horn, Stephen Gilman II, Austin Gilman, Tristan Gilman, Ashley Gilman, Bryce Gilman, Emalee Gilman, Sasha Marcum, Alison Rose, Melissa Fleming, Alan Fleming, Leigha Fleming; nine great-grandchildren; Sister, Shirley (Merlon) Howell of Severn, MD; Sister, Christine (Jack) Rice of South Point OH; Sister, Maxine Likens of Dingess, WV; Brother, Arnold Dillon of Dingess, WV, and a host of extended family and friends.

A private service was held for immediate family on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel in Chapmanville, WV, and concluded with a burial at Lenore Memorial Gardens in Lenore, WV.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Chapmanville, WV.
