Ann C. Starr Obituary

Ann C. Starr, 82, of Verdunville, WV went to be with the Lord on Friday November 8, 2024.

Ann was born March 21, 1942, in Russell County, VA, to Doc and Hersey Williams. Ann lived on Mud Fork for over 50 years building a wonderful life with her three children, Theresa Workman (Foster), Diana Barnette (Ronnie), Greg Johnson (Amy Meyer), and was preceded in death by her infant son, Archie Curtis Johnson. Ann was an outstanding role model for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ann worked for the WVDHHR for over 30 years as an Intake Officer helping thousands of families and children obtain the services they need to have a better life. Ann took great pride in her work and loved interacting with her community, making a difference in the lives of so many people in Logan County. In addition, Ann was an accomplished seamstress altering countless outfits for her friends and family.

Ann’s joy was being around her four grandchildren, Leah Williams (Fuji), Adam Barnette, Justin Workman (Amanda), Ronnie Barnette, Jr, and six great-grandchildren, Neah Bazzilla, Aksel Williams, Hunter Barnette, Blake Barnette, Aiden Workman, and Abby Workman. When they were young, she loved nothing more than to play games with them, nurture and love them. She was always at-the-ready to spend time with a big smile and lots of laughter with them. Ann was instrumental in the lives of her nieces and nephews: Delores McCormick, Kenneth Nelson, Vernon Elkins, Barry Elkins, Renaulda Crisp, Susie Brown, Crystal Counts, Jeff Williams, Tracey Eleam, Michelle Vernon, Brian Williams, Steve Williams, Debbie Hendricks, Chelsea Collins, and Zach Williams. Ann was married to the late Thurman Starr, who was a loving husband and father to their children.

Ann is survived by her sister, Brenda Salyers (Curt), and brother, Tommy Williams. Ann will join her siblings who preceded her in death, Beatrice Nelson, Leila Gay Damron, Peggy Elkins, Maglene Williams, Shelby Baisden, Guy Williams, Forrest “Bo” Williams, Robert Williams, Carlson Williams, Paul Williams, and Forrest Williams.

Ann will be remembered most for her love of life, her big smile, and being the brightest light in the room. She was always, “ready to go dancing.”

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Chapmanville, WV. Visitation for the public will be held between 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Service will be at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Lonnie Gore, Jr., and Layton Lockhart officiating.
