Althea Jeanine Wells Adkins Obituary

Althea Jeanine Wells Adkins, 53, of Lyburn West Virginia, born February 1, 1971, in Louisa, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024, peacefully at home in her sleep.

Preceded in death by her parents, Avalee Joan Maxie Adkins and Herbert Lloyd “Buddy” Adkins; her grandparents, Woodrow and Imogene Reeves Maxie; and her faithful little Schnauzer, NessieLee.

Survived by one sister, Alethea Irene Tomblin of North Mitchell Heights, WV; one brother, Bryan (Angel) Adkins of Man, WV; two nephews, Joshua (Jerica) Sparks of Salyersville, Kentucky, and Craig Aaron Sparks of North Mitchell Heights, WV; one niece, RyLee Jeanine Tomblin of North Mitchell Heights, WV; two great-nephews, Callen Sparks and Rowen Sparks of Salyersville, KY; one great-niece, Quinley Sparks of Salyersville, Kentucky; one aunt, Avis “Hobert” Morgan of Louisa, Kentucky; one uncle, Anthony Maxie of Blaine, Kentucky; three special cousins, Beatrice Varney and Missy Varney of Columbus, Ohio, and Mark Maxie of Blaine, Kentucky; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Although Jeanine never had any children of her own, she was always an important part of Joshua, Craig, and Bryan’s upbringing and took great pride in having RyLee Jeanine as her namesake. She loved each of them as her own. From birth through graduations and marriages, she was always by their side.

Nothing can replace her love. As a sister, Jeanine was a unique blessing that will last forever, a sister that shared a special bond with Irene and Bryan that can never be broken.

Jeanine was a blessing that filled so many hearts with love. She flew through life like a dove. Someone whom we could share our secrets; whether we were going through a good or bad time, she always helped us with a grin and never frowned.

Jeanine loved crafting in every way from cross stitch and Russian Embroidery to quilting with her mommy and sewing with Mamaw Maxie as a little girl. She loved her Pepsi and couldn’t be beat making the best cornbread. She loved the farm in Kentucky, board games, Scrabble, and UNO. Jeanine was one in a million and to know her was instant love.

As a family, we find comfort in knowing she left these old dirt roads for a street of gold and reunited with Mom, Dad, and so many others gone before, but most of all, her Savior. God gave her to us only for a short time to teach us all unconditional love.
