Alice Marie Baisden Obituary

Alice Marie (Ferguson) Baisden, 78, of Verdunville, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 30, 2024, leaving from Boone Memorial Hospital at Madison, WV, after an extended illness.

She was born March 17, 1946, at Logan, WV, a daughter of the late John Burns Ferguson and Sylvia Lawson Ferguson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny M. “Big John” Baisden; her son, Johnny M. “Johnny Buck” Baisden; and one of her dearest friends, Betty Taylor.

Alice was retired from the Logan County Board of Education. She was a Christian for nearly 50 years who loved serving the Lord. She was a member of the Maryetta United Baptist Church at Verdunville, WV, for many years where she taught Bible School, was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program for the elderly, and was very active in the Ladies Circle. During the summer, she would volunteer her time and work at the Bethlehem Association Church Camp at Salt Rock. In addition to her dedication to the Maryetta Church, Alice also attended the Stone Branch Church of God where she was active in many roles including teaching the adult Bible class, volunteering with Vacation Bible School, and she also served in the Ladies Aid Ministry.

Alice was considered the life of the party with her witty and outgoing personality. In her younger days, she and some of her closest friends whom she called “The Girls” would gather at Betty Taylor’s house every Friday night and play Bible Trivia. Alice was very devoted to her family, and she will be missed by all who knew her.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Ednamarie Baisden of Verdunville, WV; one granddaughter, Nalyn Cheyenne (Dex) Carver of Rum Creek, WV; one great-granddaughter, Sailor Grey Carver of Rum Creek, WV; two sisters, Genevieve R. Ross of Coquille, OR, and C. Nancy Bevino Tanner of Knoxville, TN; one sister-in-law who was also one of her caregivers, Shirley Baisden of Verdunville, WV; and three brothers-in-law, Jack (Sue Ann) Baisden and Tennis (Annetta Daniels) Baisden both of Verdunville, WV, and Jerry (Maria) Baisden of North Myrtle Beach, SC. Sue Ann was her sister-in-law, but she considered her as one of her sisters as they were very close. Additionally, Alice leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends, along with special friends whom she considered family, Willard and JoAnn Horton and their family, Sandra Butcher, and Dixie Long.

The Baisden family would like to extend a special thanks to Boone Memorial Hospital and their nursing staff and CNA girls, Dr. Robbie Long, Jody Asbury, Big Mike Bowen, and Dr. David Mullett.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Maryetta United Baptist Church at Verdunville, WV, with Pastor Lonnie Gore, Jr., officiating.

Burial will follow in the Baisden Family Cemetery at Verdunville, WV. Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Williamson, Kelly Vance, Sheridan Taylor, Jack Baisden, Mick Baisden, and Dex Carver.
