Alfred Lee "Tojoe" Guess

June 26, 1942 ~ September 26, 2021 (age 79)

Obituary

Alfred Lee "Tojoe" Guess, 79, of Branchland, WV, passed away on September 26, 2021, surrounded by family at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, WV. Tojoe was a friend to all who knew him and was loved by many.

Born on June 26, 1942, Tojoe was the son of the late Lloyd Alfred Guess and Goldie Tennessee Meeks Guess.

In addition to his parents, Tojoe was also preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Browning and Marilyn “Mug” Adkins White; and brothers, Curtis Guess and David Guess.

Tojoe was born in Ethel, WV, and was a member of the military, serving in both the U.S. Army and the Air Force. He later found local television fame as a wrestler in Southern West Virginia. Tojoe briefly worked as a bartender in Logan, while also working for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company and eventually, the City of Logan.

Tojoe most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing fantasy football with his nephews, and participating in the Old Timers baseball games in Logan when he was younger. He enjoyed playing pool and collecting liquor bottles from around the world. No matter where Tojoe went, he was the center of attention. He had a bigger than life personality, he was honest and kind, supportive and loving. He loved to joke and tease, and he left everyone with a smile.

Those left to cherish Tojoe's memory are the love of his life, Goldie Jean Adams Guess; daughters, Michelle Lea (Ezra Allen) Browning and Goldie Marie (Mike) Payne; grandchildren, Christopher (Peter) Browning, Erica (Jordan) Bridges, Samantha (Michael) Cox, Jonathan Browning, Brendan (Katheryn) Payne, Jacob Browning, River Browning, and Noah Browning; great-grandchildren, Gracie and Jackson Bridges, Hadley Cox, and Connor Payne; a host of beloved nieces and nephews including one special niece, Chelsea Guess, who lived with him and helped care for him for the last two years; and many friends including his dear friend and neighbor, Lowell Lambert.
